Want More Kids But Afraid to Try Again?

birth·Brigid Tebaldi·Sep 2, 2025· 3 minutes

For so many moms, the thought of another baby is complicated. Your heart longs for it, but your body remembers what happened last time. Maybe your birth was traumatic. Maybe you’re still exhausted in your bones. Or maybe there’s just this wave of fear that rushes in every time you picture going through it again. If that’s you, I've been there and I know how awful it feels.

Here's the episode I just recorded about it!

Why Fear After Trauma is Normal

When you’ve been through something hard, your body doesn’t just “forget.” Trauma sticks around. It’s like having an alarm system that went off in a fire and now it keeps blaring even though the flames are out. It’s not that you’re weak. It’s that your body is still holding the weight of what happened. I often think of it like carrying a backpack full of bricks. Every memory, every fear, every bit of tension is a brick. The work isn’t pretending it’s not heavy it’s gently unpacking it so you can walk lighter, freer, stronger.

The Enemy vs. God in Your Fear

Fear is LOUD. The enemy loves to use it, to keep you stuck in one place, whispering, “You can’t do this again. You’ll never make it through.” But God’s voice? His voice is quieter, steadier. He says, “I am with you. I will give you peace.” When you learn to tune into His voice instead of the noise of fear, it’s like finding a rope across a raging river. The water might still be wild, but suddenly you have something strong to hold on to as you take the next step.

Practical Steps to Heal Before Deciding

If you’re in that in-between space, longing for more but terrified at the thought, here are a few steps you can take right now:

  • Tend to your nervous system. Breathe. Move. Let your body know it’s safe again.

  • Find safe community. Being around other women who get it, who can encourage you and remind you that you’re not broken - that changes everything. This is exactly what we do inside The Dwelling Place.

  • Get one-on-one support. Sometimes you need a guide who knows the way. Someone who can help you process the trauma, calm the fear, and rebuild trust in your body. That’s the work I do every day with women like you.

Where You Can Be

Now picture this: standing on solid ground, looking back at the river of fear you’ve crossed. Your body feels at peace. Your mind is clear. Your heart feels steady. the decision about whether to grow your family comes not from fear, but from love and confidence. That’s possible. That’s the freedom healing makes room for.

If you’re ready to take the next step, I want to invite you to join us in The Dwelling Placea community of women walking this journey together. Or, if you know you need deeper, personal support, apply for 1:1 coaching. We’ll do the work so you can move forward without fear calling the shots.
