You saw the test. The lines are there. You’re pregnant!!
Before the reality even sinks in, your brain starts spinning:
“When should I call my doctor?”
“What should I eat?”
“Can I still have coffee?”
“What if something goes wrong?”
It’s so normal to feel a mix of excitement, fear, and total uncertainty, but before you rush to do all the things, I want you to pause.
Why pause? Well, because how you begin this pregnancy sets the tone for your entire motherhood journey.
1. Start with God, not Google
Before you look for advice -- pray.
Ask Him:
“What do You want to teach me through this pregnancy?”
“How do You want to shape me into the mother You designed me to be?”
Your body is already doing holy work. You don’t need to control it, but you do need to cooperate with it.
2. Nourish yourself
Forget the long list of “don’ts.” Think abundance.
Eat real food, especially protein.
Aim for around 100 grams per day, but ideally 1g/body weight.
Add minerals to your water, and get sunlight every day.
If you want to take a prenatal, make sure to choose one that has FOLATE in it and NOT folic acid. If you want a traditional prenatal, this is a great one!! I personally use Juice Plus+, which is food-based and easy to digest, even when nothing sounds good in the first trimester.
3. Know your options
That first ultrasound at 8 weeks?
You can accept it or you can decline it.
If you’re healthy and know your cycle dates, you can safely wait until later in pregnancy or not at all. If you want reassurance or clarity, that’s okay too.
The point is: you get to choose.
You also get to choose your care practitioner or if you even want anyone there. Look for someone who listens, who believes in the design of your body, and who encourages informed choices, not fear-based ones.
4. Rest and prepare
Sleep isn’t optional. Go to bed early (ideally when the sun goes down). Slow down. Trust that rest is productive!!
If you’re ready to take this deeper, to understand your options, prepare for a calm and holy birth, and feel confident in your body and decisions, I want to invite you to join me inside The Birth Course.
