Why Loreto?

During a time when God felt distant, I began seeking Him in news ways. I found tradition and was introduced to the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as the Litany of Loreto. In this prayer, we call upon the Blessed Mother to intercede for us and to help us become more like her:  holy, trusting, life-giving.

A Strong Woman is a Virtuous Woman

Loreto is said to be the resting place of the childhood home of the Blessed Mother. This home is where Mary learned to cook, clean, mend, mother, serve, and love. But, most importantly, this home is where she learned to completely trust in the Lord. Ultimately, this is where she gave her ultimate "fiat" or yes to God. Where she trustfully surrendered her entire life, her body, mind, and soul, her entire being to the unknown will of God.

My goal is to live in Loreto as Mary had:  loving others, serving well, and trusting in the divine plan with complete and unfailing trust. While I am a sinner and constantly failing, Mary is there to show me what is possible and to mother me through my hardships. She is there to intercede and beg God for forgiveness of my sins, as all mothers would beg for their own children.

Our Lady of Loreto, oro pro nobis.
